Campbell hails steady influence of Hughton on Newcastle

Sol Campbell says Newcastle United have never had it so good with manager Chris Hughton.

Campbell could only watch from afar two years ago as Kevin Keegan walked out on Newcastle and the Magpies plunged into the abyss.

But after being handed the reins, Hughton and Colin Calderwood have turned it round on Tyneside.

Campbell told the Evening Chronicle: "United are lucky to have them.

"They're conscious of everything, they want the club to move in the right direction.

"They've calmed down all of the gossip and concentrated on football, which is what this club should be about and how it should be run.

"Chris has done a fantastic job. You have to look at what he's done and say that.

"And when you look at the finances that everybody has to deal with in football, not just Newcastle, it's pretty impressive."
