Sol Campbell suffered a torrid Notts County debut as they lost 2-1 to Sammy McIlroy's Morecambe.
Campbell, making his first appearance of the season a day after his 35th birthday, had not played a competitive match since May. He signed for County as a free agent last month after being released by Portsmouth, no doubt prompted by his former England coach, Sven-Göran Eriksson, being the director of football at Meadow Lane.
The former Arsenal and Tottenham defender, who won 71 England caps, played in front of just 3,335 fans as Morecambe went in front after 36 minutes through Jim Bentley's header. Paul Mullin, another 35-year-old, doubled the Lancashire side's lead before Ben Davies pulled a goal back for the visitors.
