A move to Newcastle United is now unlikely for Sol Campbell.

Former Arsenal and Tottenham defender Campbell has confirmed he is now free to join any club after coming to an agreement with Notts County, who have eventually released him from his contract after he agreed to a gagging order.

The former England international said: "The paperwork is now with Notts County, an agreement has been reached, but as yet they haven't signed the documents and sent them off to the Football League. I am waiting for that to happen.

"My guess is that it will somehow coincide with the opening of the transfer window, and I will be free to play in about three weeks' time. Where I am going to play? Well, that is interesting. I have a few clubs tabling offers at the moment, but one of them doesn't seem to be Newcastle now."
