Cambiasso could stay if Leicester achieve survival - Pearson

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that there is a possibility of Esteban Cambiasso staying put at the club beyond the end of the current campaign.

With Leicester seemingly doomed for the drop a few weeks ago, it had looked increasingly likely that veteran midfielder Cambiasso would be leaving the King Power Stadium in the summer.

However, the Foxes' recent three-match winning streak in the Premier League has given them every chance of survival in the top flight and now Pearson has gone on to reveal that if his side manage to avoid the drop, Inter Milan legend Cambiasso could remain in Leicestershire next season.

"We will have a much better chance of Esteban staying with us (if City survive) but we will have to see how it pans out," said Pearson.

"There were questions about Esteban's contract situation and he said he would wait until the end of the season. As far as I'm concerned, that's fine. I would be more than happy to continue to work alongside him.

"I'm sure that will take care of itself. We have to keep our eye on what is happening now. Behind the scenes, as there have been with other players, there will be discussions about contracts but we will keep that in-house.

"He made a few comments and said it (survival) would be a great achievement for him. Esteban is a very interesting character, he has been very good to work with and I have enjoyed that. Hopefully, that will continue."
