Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker feels he and his teammates produced a 'calm' performance in their 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
The Gunners turned around their recent misery against top-four sides by getting the better of the reigning Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium and German centre-back Mertesacker put it down to remaining composed and settled during the contest.
"We stayed calm over the whole 90 minutes and just dropped a bit deeper. We didn't rush ourselves to do anything," said Mertesacker.
"It's very unusual for us, but we learned, especially from last season. I would say it was a mature performance.
"We don't have to talk too much. It was just one game, but it was a good response. Every player was up for proper defending from front to back. I think we have to praise the whole unit."
The victory saw Arsenal return to fifth place on the table which has them sitting just one point behind Manchester United, although they are still 13 points in arrears of London rivals Chelsea.
