Eden Hazard is expected to be out of action for up to two weeks.
Hazard will now be sidelined for Belgium's World up qualifier against Greece on Saturday and the friendly with Russia next week, according to Roberto Martinez.
"Eden has suffered an injury before the match against Stoke, it does not look so serious," Red Devils boss Martinez said.
"But he will not play against Greece. We are going to follow the injury.
"It is a big disappointment for Eden that he cannot lead the team. If you want to be a good team, you have to absorb everything.
"This is a good test for us. I see enough players who can take over his role."
It is understood that Hazard could even miss the Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace on April 1, and there at this early stage, there is some doubt over his fitness for the April 5 clash with third-placed Manchester City.
