Caldwell: McDonald desperate for Celtic goals

Gary Caldwell knows Celtic pal Scott McDonald is desperate to defend his top scorers' trophy this season in Scotland. "Scott came to Celtic a year past in the summer and maybe people did not really have any expectations of him," said Caldwell. "He duly showed what a good player he is by scoring a right few goals and helping us win the title.

"When you do something like that, you will always have to raise your game again the following season and that is the difficult bit in football."

The defender added: "We've had to change our style, or at least adapt it a wee bit with guys like Jan (Vennegor of Hesselink) and Georgios (Samaras) missing out through injury.

"We have had to play it on the deck more than ever. But Scott is very good at holding it up and bringing team-mates into play. Scott will want to get 20 goals this season. Believe me, he moans on our bus after games when he hasn't scored."
