Calderon: Real Madrid spoke with former Chelsea boss Mourinho

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed the La Liga giants sounded out sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, before settling on Zinedine Zidane as their new manager.

Mourinho spent three seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013, where he formed a strong relationship with current president Florentino Perez.

"I think it is not a secret that the current president liked Jose Mourinho very much and Perez got in touch with him before deciding to go with Zidane," Calderon told Sky SportsNews HQ.

"Apparently, Mourinho did not like to come at this time of the season and Zidane was here so we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks."

Former Real star Zidane was appointed as the Spanish giants' new manager on Monday following the axing of Rafael Benitez.
