Cahill's Everton dumped from Carling Cup

Tim Cahill's Everton were this morning dumped from the Carling Cup after losing on penalties to League One club Brentford.

Cahill was not in David Moyes' squad for the match at Griffin Park which saw the Toffees take the lead through Seamus Coleman in just the 6th minute.

However, the Bees hit back four minutes before the break thanks to a Gary Alexander goal and they should have taken the lead on the hour-mark when Everton keeper Jan Mucha saved a Charlie MacDonald spot-kick.

The match ended 1-1 after extra-time, forcing a penalty shootout which Brentford won 4-3 after Richard Lee saved a Jermaine Beckford shot and then MacDonald redeemed himself to send the club through to the fourth round of the competition.
