Cahill not despondent with Everton start

Tim Cahill says it is not all doom and gloom for Everton despite losing their past two Premier League matches.

The Toffees were beaten 2-0 at Goodison Park by Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Saturday following their defeat with the same scoreline at Manchester City the weekend prior, giving them a sour taste heading into the international break.

But Cahill feels that overall Everton have performed well as they sit 13th on the table with a game in hand on all but Tottenham and find themselves in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

"I think it has gone well," he told evertontv. "At our training ground we try and stay focused and focus on the positive things - the unity and strength we have here - and try to apply that on the pitch.

"We have had some hard games against Man City and against Liverpool and we have a few more coming up.

"But I feel it has gone well and the most important thing for us now is to take it one game at a time and give that game absolutely everything."

As for the derby loss to the Reds, Cahill admits it was disappointing but has made it clear that it is not the be all and end all.

"It is always sad to lose a derby. Especially in circumstances like that where you lose a player," he said in reference to Jack Rodwell's questionable red card which has since been rescinded.

"I thought we were on top early in the game and were pressing them. It looked like it was going to go well until a poor decision made a massive impact on it.

"But we have to look forward now. The derby is something magical and a game we all enjoy so it is disheartening when you lose, but we really need to pick ourselves up now and look to the Chelsea game."
