Cahill intent on keeping Everton's Euro hopes alive

Tim Cahill says he is intent on keeping Everton's Europa League hopes alive in the season run-in.

The Toffees currently sit in eighth position on the English Premier League table, two points behind seventh-placed Liverpool and four in arrears of Aston Villa who are in sixth, and following his last-minute winner against Blackburn on Saturday, Cahill hopes he can push the club into one of those spots and doesn't care how he does it.

"I'm not bothered as long as the ball hits the back of the net," Cahill told Everton'sofficial website. "I work hard in training with the manager and the players to get into positions where I can score with my head and I'm not going to stop now. It's something I've done all my life. But if they fall to my feet, they fall to my feet and I'm happy with that.

"We're always going to score goals because we've got a great strike force and we're playing well. I see we're very confident. We felt like we needed this win to push for Europe and as long as we're putting pressure on everyone else, they know what we're all about. I'm very confident we can push on again."

Cahill helped Everton record the 3-2 away win over Blackburn but said it was important the side bounced back after conceding an equaliser when they were seemingly in control of proceedings.

"We were gutted when they equalised the second time," he added. "It was disappointing because the momentum was with us and I thought we could control the game. But then we let in two 'worldy' strikes and all credit to them for that. But for us, for how hard we worked and the effort we put in, 2-2 didn't reflect the game.

"After Aston Villa and three draws in a row it was about picking ourselves up. We've had a lot of knocks and injuries and to be as bright as we were today was a credit to the staff and the players."
