Tim Cahill was delighted for Everton youngster Seamus Coleman after his impressive cameo in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
The 21-year-old Irish defender was making his fourth appearance in the first-team, after starting against both Benfica and AEK Athens away in the Europa League and coming on for his league debut against Bolton Wanderers domestically.
Cahill told evertonfc.com: "He was fantastic. I've spoken about the young lads stepping up and taking the opportunity to do well and this is their chance. They've got to take it and be consistent.
"Now it's about helping Seamus learn how to play in the Premier League. Today showed how well he is learning," he continued.
"His attitude is one of the best things about him. He never stops, works hard in training and loves being part of the team.
"As a captain I'm proud of him and he deserves it."
