Everton's Tim Cahill says he is happy for the club to fly under the radar ahead of the new English Premier League season.

The Australian international helped the Toffees to an 8th-placed finish in the league last season and is well aware that the club have not received much praise this pre-season.

But on the eve of their season which kicks off with an away fixture at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Cahill said he didn't mind all the hype that clubs like Manchester City and Tottenham were receiving.

"Everyone can see our potential. It is important to keep our form going from last season," Cahill said.

"The only reason why people are talking about Manchester City and Tottenham is because they are the ones spending the money. We are not spending anything, and it's the same thing every year.

"If we were spending that sort of money, people would talk about us. But we're breeding some great talent here, and the manager [David Moyes] has picked up some very shrewd buys.

"I'm really optimistic about our chances of doing well, and finishing higher in the league."
