Bolton defender Gary Cahill was happy his side were able to take advantage of other results around them by beating Everton 2-0 on Sunday.
With Stoke losing to Birmingham, Newcastle United drawing with Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland losing to Tottenham, the win allowed the Trotters to move into eighth and are now just one point from seventh place.
Cahill, whose 10th-minute header gave his side the lead, was delighted with the result.
"It was a good collective performance today, there were good individual performances and we got the right result," he said.
"A few results went for us yesterday so it's good that we capitalised, I think we're just a point behind Sunderland now and we just have to keep our heads down and get on with our work."
