Cagliari midfielder Andrea Cossu is still a chance to make the Italy squad.

Cossu was cut from the final list of 23 going to South Africa, but could be a late addition if Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi's knee injury deteriorated.

"A call to the World Cup would've been an extra bonus, a cherry on top of this great season," Cossu told the official Cagliari website.

"For me the experience of being here training with the Italy squad at Sestriere has been wonderful and very important anyway.

"I thank the fans who always supported me and of course my teammates, who allowed me to come so close to a World Cup."
