Cagliari midfielder Andrea Lazzarri admits surprise by his Italy call-up.
Lazzarri credits his former Cagliari coach Max Allegri, now with AC Milan, for his promotion.
"I swear, it was totally unexpected and a wonderful surprise," said the 25-year-old.
"I thank Allegri for this opportunity, as well as Cagliari and my parents. My folks always watch my games and will be in London on Tuesday. I'm paying for their trip."
He continued: "I have worked with many tacticians, but he gave me something more. For two years he allowed Cagliari to play great football and I'm sure he'll do very well at Milan.
"As for me, my only focus must be on Cagliari and achieving safety as soon as possible. If a few reinforcements arrive capable of raising the quality level, then they'll be very welcome."
