Sunderland are believed to be showing significant interest in Davide Astori.
Reports suggest that Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat is still searching for a new centre-back and the name of Cagliari's Astori has popped up on his radar.
28-year old Astori spent last season on loan at AS Roma who are keen on a permanent £4million deal according to the Daily Mail.
The 10-time Italy international is the latest central defender to be linked with Sunderland, joining out-of-contract Aston Villa man Ron Vlaar, Celtic's Dutch ace Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool duo Sebastian Coates and Tiago Ilori.
