Cadamarteri named August SPL Player of the Month

Dundee United striker Danny Cadamarteri has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Month for August. Former Everton striker Cadamarteri has enjoyed a scorching start to his career in Scotland, netting three times in three SPL games.

Cadamarteri admitted he has been surprised he hasn't had lumps kicked out of him/

He told the Scottish Sun: "When I came up here I expected to get kicked all over the park but that's not been the case.

"That's what it was like down in England at times and I had to adapt the way I played because of it. I spent two seasons getting the lumps kicked out of me.

"In League One and the Championship that's a big problem because the teams don't play much football at times.

"They just want to fight and tussle because they can't play much.

"So when I came up here I thought the likes of St Mirren and Falkirk, who are some of the so-called lesser teams, would do the same but the opposite was true.

"I was really impressed by them. They passed the ball around and played some nice stuff.

"It has been a new lease of life, especially as I've been able to use my feet up here for a change rather than just my head."

He said: "I have said from day one that the standard of Scottish football has surprised me.

"The SPL gets a bit of a negative press down in England and people snipe at it, saying the standard is poor.

"I can vouch for the fact it's not.

"I've played at several levels down in England so I know what it's all about down there.

"There are plenty of teams down there who just lump the ball up the park and chase it. Up here the players try to do things properly."
