Caceres determined to get Wellington Phoenix start

Wellington Phoenix attacking midfielder Adrian Caceres is desperate to win more starts for the New Zealand club.

The former Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners man has started just once for the Phoenix but in all his substitute appearances he has been dangerous and created many chances for the team.

But Caceres continues to be overlooked for a starting berth and cannot understand why.

"I don't think I can do any more than what I've done," said Caceres. "Every time I've come on I've done well for the team. I always try and play for the team.

"It's hard because a lot of people - family members - tell me I should be a bit more greedy and go for goal so I can get a start.

"But I tell them it's not like that. I think if you do your bit as part of the team and you do the right thing for the team you'll get the start."

Caceres came to Wellington with a new niggling injuries but is confident he is now at full fitness and is just waiting for his opportunity to play a full game.

"I've worked hard to get myself fit and get myself to the right level and every time I've come on I've shown a little bit of what I can do and hopefully that can translate into 90 minutes," he added.
