Claudio Cacapa admits he chose to join Newcastle United in order to learn English.

The Brazilian defender has signed a two-year contract with Toon after joining on a Bosman from French champions Olympique Lyon.

Cacapa said: "I always wanted to speak English. For me, it is a new challenge. Newcastle is a big club with a beautiful stadium. There is everything here you need to make a success of things.

"When this club contacted me, I immediately accepted.

"I had offers from Qatar, Besiktas, Italy, Toulouse and Bordeaux. Newcastle was the best offer.

"I want to have a great season. It's a new challenge and I am motivated again to meet it."
