Buttner confident as Man Utd on verge of CL semi-final

Alex Buttner was in a positive mood after Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night.

The Dutch left-back performed impressively in the absence of the suspended Patrice Evra, keeping Arjen Robben relatively quiet, in the Old Trafford fixture.

United head to the Allianz Arena for the return bout next week and Buttner cannot see why the reigning English champions cannot get another favourable result over the Bundesliga and European holders.

"Of course we can do it. We always believe in ourselves. We had chances to score more goals and we have to focus on that. Defensively we did well, we didn't give a lot away, just a goal, and I think we have a good chance," Buttner told Sky Sports.

"It was nice to play. For me it was my first big game and I think I did well. We know they can play good football and for myself I defended well against one of the best wingers. It's good to play a good game."
