Butt ready to end career at Newcastle

Nicky Butt has declared he wants to end his career at Newcastle United.

The former Manchester United midfielder told the Sunday Sun: "My contract expires in the summer of 2008, but I'd like to end my career here.

"I think I've got a couple more years left in me yet and if I can sort out a new contract that would be great."

But additions to his 39 England caps are not on his wish list.

"No, not at this stage of my career," he admitted. "I had a chat with Sven-Goran Eriksson about that and told him I didn't want to be travelling all over the world to sit on the bench.

"We've got the two best midfielders in Europe I think in Lampard and Gerrard and there's a lot of great players waiting behind them, so my time has gone."
