Manchester United U19 earned a crucial 2-0 win at UEFA Youth League opponents Real Sociedad yesterday.
The Reds went ahead after just 11 minutes when James Wilson volleyed home Sam Byrne's superb cross to notch his fourth goal of this season's competition. Byrne then teed up Joe Rothwell for United's second, shortly after the half-time interval.
"It was very important for us to win the game," coach Nicky Butt told MUTV. "It's given us a chance to reach the latter stages of this league.
"More importantly, it was the performance we were looking for. We know we have a lot of quality in that dressing room but we haven't really shown it in the games.
"Today, they stuck at it, the work-rate was phenomenal, they got the rewards and I think it was the right result."
