Butland ponders loan move from Stoke to improve England ambitions

Stoke keeper Jack Butland admits he may be forced to go out on loan if he is to earn a place in England's World Cup squad. The 21 year old told Sky Sports News: "Now that the transfer window is closed a loan move to the Premier League is not on the cards, so I'll either see what happens at Stoke or assess my options in the Championship.

"If I'm not playing, there is no way I can be chosen for any squad. I need to be playing in order to give myself a chance of going (to Brazil)."

Butland added: "I'm always confident in my ability; you have to be as a goalkeeper. If I'm playing well, I have a chance.

"All I can focus on is playing as many games as I can at the highest level. If that leads me to the World Cup, then brilliant. It's certainly a target of mine."
