Butcher insists "guts, heart" enough for Celtic's underdone McManus

Scotland No2 Terry Butcher says there's no doubts over Celtic defender Stephen McManus, despite his lack of games. Butcher revealed McManus could be thrown into action in the World Cup qualifier against Macedonia.

He said: "The squad trained very well at Dumbarton and Mick played his part in that.

"It isn't perfect that he hasn't played a lot of competitive matches.

"But when it comes down to it we have got to look beyond fitness and look at guts, heart, determination and experience.

"Big Mick is desperate to play. As I said, he has trained very well and is looking forward to the match at Hampden. Having said that, Christophe (Berra of Wolves) is also fit.

"He also has a lot of experience, both at club level and at international level, and played against Holland last season.

"Christophe and Mick are keen to be involved in both games against Macedonia and Holland and the manager has a difficult decision to make there.

"We will pick two guys who complement each other."
