Burns eyeing Australian return with Incheon United move
Nathan Burns hopes his move to Korean club Incheon United will enhance his chances of pushing into the Australian national team.
The 23-year old striker this week joined the K-League outfit after having his contract with Greek club AEK Athens terminated and he is looking for a fresh start under former South Korea boss Huh Jung-moo with more Socceroos appearances in mind.
"For a coach like Huh to choose me as one of his four imports is a huge honour that I am really thankful for.
"AEK is a great club and I have learnt a lot there so I will always be thankful for the experience. But at my age I have to be playing more regularly to become a better player. From what the coach and the club have said I will be given the opportunity to do that with Incheon.
"My aim is to do whatever I can to get back in to the Australian team and be part of the World Cup team.” "There were a few clubs interested in me from Europe, Asia and Australia but after seeing the record (coach) Huh Jung-Moo has for developing unknown players I thought Incheon was the best choice for me," the seven-time capped Burns told The Daily Telegraph.
Burns also defended his move to Korea with some critics suggesting the competition is not of a very high quality.
“All they have to do is look at how well K-League teams do in the Asian Champions League compared to Aussie teams.""People that put the K- League down have no idea what they're talking about,” he added.
