Burnley winger Kightly happy with return to fitness

Michael Kightly is pleased with his fitness work at Burnley.

The former Stoke City winger played for the development squad in midweek against Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old continues to build up his fitness following minor knee surgery in the close-season, he was pleased to get valuable minutes under his belt.

Kightly told burnleyfootballclub.com: "It was a good run out for us and obviously I've not played much football so it was nice to get 90 minutes and score a goal.

"I missed most of pre-season so I'm just trying to get as fit as I can to push the lads that are starting for a spot.

"I need to be at full tilt to be able to do that so naturally these games provide a good platform for me to do so.

"Everyone wants to play, of course, but we've got a much bigger squad than last season so you have to bide your time and do well in these games to show the manager you are ready."
