Burnley's Carling Cup hero Kevin McDonald resisted an offer from the Premiership to move to the Championship club in the summer.
Boss Owen Coyle revealed to the Daily Mail how he convinced McDonald to ignore overtures from Celtic and Liverpool and join Burnley from Dundee earlier this year.
Coyle said: "Kevin comes from a very close-knit family and I felt it was important his parents knew he would be looked after.
"They were in Carnoustie so I drove and met them halfway for a cup of tea. I sat with them and said we would do our best for him. I think they were comfortable with that. As a parent you worry when your child leaves home."
