Burnley striker Wood clears the air on Leeds bust-up

Chris Wood has refuted claims he refused to play for Leeds United when his move to Burnley was developing.

A fee between the two clubs had been agreed a day before Leeds hosted Sunderland at Elland Road, and the two days before the deal was completed.

The New Zealand international felt the wrath of Leeds supporters, who believed he didn't want to play as a result of his move to Turf Moor.

But Wood has revealed that the deal with Burnley stipulated that he was not allowed to play against Sunday.

"Nobody understands that the bid Burnley put in was subject to me not playing against Sunderland," Wood says.

"And everybody thinks that I refused to play. But it was out of my hands. The bid went in at 3pm on the Friday and got accepted at 5pm on the Friday.

"It was completely out of my hands whether I played or not. Burnley took that out of the equation, because they didn't want the worst to happen."
