Burnley striker Vokes praises teammates resolve

Sam Vokes believes that Burnley are showing the right type of mental strength and quality as they attempt to improve their away form in the Premier League.

While Burnley are very comfortable in the Premier League, in 7th position, they do want to improve their form away from home.

And Vokes believes that getting a point at Newcastle after being behind shows the team are on the right track.

"It was a tough place to come tonight, especially going 1-0 behind," said Vokes.

"But the character of the boys was brilliant. We knew at times we probably weren't at it on the night, but we found a way to get a result.

"That says a lot for our away performances this year. We've done it a lot of times away from home, especially at these big places.

"Popey made a great save from the penalty in the first half, which gave us a lift, and even when we went behind it didn't feel like the game had gone away from us.

"We thought we were still in it. It made a difference when we brought the wide boys on and they got at the defenders and caused a bit of disruption at the back.

"We created a few chances and it was great getting the goal in the end."
