Burnley striker Thompson chooses St Mirren over Hibs

St Mirren have clinched an agreement with Burnley striker Steven Thompson.

The Scottish Sun says he has verbally agreed a two-year contract with Saints manager Danny Lennon and will sign when he returns from a family holiday.

The Paisley-born ace is a free agent after leaving Burnley and after five and a half years down south he wants to return home.

The ex-Dundee United and Cardiff striker, 32, who won 16 caps for Scotland, was linked with Hibs but opted for boyhood heroes Saints.

His signing will be a major coup for Lennon as he looks to rebuild his squad after St Mirren finished 11th in the SPL.
