Burnley striker Ings pinching himself over England U21 chance

Burnley striker Danny Ings was delighted to be part of Gareth Southgate's England U21 squad.

Ings - who grew up a Southampton fan idolising Matt le Tissier - has been rewarded for his outstanding form with the Clarets.

"This is just the start but I couldn't have asked for anything better," said Ings, whose 11 goals in 14 appearances have helped Burnley become the Championship's surprise leaders. "It's been an unbelievable journey but I want to continue. I have started well, scored goals and great to get a call up.

"I didn't know (Southgate) was watching me. I had a couple of hard years with injuries but I have worked hard and turned it around. People were wondering where the goals would come from after Charlie Austin left (for QPR in the summer) but I'm doing my best to repay a lot of people."
