Burnley striker Ashley Barnes: Scoring at Anfield dream come true, but...

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes admits the manner of defeat at Liverpool was frustrating.

The 27-year-old netted the 10th Premier League goal of his career when he slid Burnley ahead in the opening stages, but Georgino Wijnaldum and Emre Can struck for Liverpool to turn the game on its head.

“I couldn't have dreamt of scoring in front of the Kop as a youngster," Barnes said. “It's up there definitely, at a tough place like this to come and play. It was a magical moment, but I'm disappointed with the result."

Barnes revealed he had been on the end of some stick from Joey Barton for his goal return in the week so he was delighted to find the back of the net for the fourth time in his last 11 Premier League appearances.

“It felt incredible. As a striker for the ball to hit the back of the net is an amazing feeling," the former Brighton striker said.

“Joey's been giving me stick this week in training and luckily enough I've got one.

“It's another one to the tally, I've still got a long way to go to get to a target (for goals) but it's another one on the board. Unfortunately coming away with a loss is a kick in the teeth.

“We did so well again. The first half was really good from us but to concede on half-time is a kick in the teeth."
