Burnley fancy a loan deal for Tottenham fullback Gareth Bale.

The News of the World says Burnley boss Owen Coyle needs to wheel and deal as much as possible to keep their cut-price survival bid on track.

But they will face stiff competition from Billy Davies, who has already singled out Wales defender Bale, 20, for a permanent move to Nottingham Forest next month.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp may opt to hold on to his left-back with Benoit Assou-Ekotto set for duty with Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations.
