Burnley boss Sean Dyche is pushing to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury.
But he insists the club will not be held to ransom to land their targets.
"We have been hopeful of adding players for the last few weeks," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"Some clubs just keep throwing money at it until it happens and possibly that was the Ross McCormack (from Leeds to Fulham) situation in that they just kept going until eventually they just say 'yeah'. In theory the board could do that but that would be detrimental in the long run and this could endanger the future of the club.
"If we suddenly brought in a big signing on double everyone else then I do not see how that is helpful to the group. I have made it quite clear to the group how we go about our business."
