Burnley News: Gudmundsson targets Europe; Barnes set for Austria call

Burnley midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson says they must go for Europa League qualification.

Burnley could find themselves in the Europa League if they catch Arsenal in sixth or if they remain in seventh and one of Manchester United, Tottenham or Chelsea win the FA Cup.

"It's a real possibility, and for a club like Burnley going into the Europa League would be a fantastic achievement," Gudmundsson said.

"I played a few seasons back in Holland. I think we reached the quarter-finals twice so I've been around in that competition. It's a good competition.

"I don't think it's looked at as the greatest competition in England because it's tough, you're playing Thursday and Sunday. The demand on the Premier League is so tough that it can take a bit out of you. There are pros and cons about it."

Meanwhile, Burnley striker Ashley Barnes is in line for a call from Austria coach Franco Foda.

Bath-born Barnes qualifies for Austria through his grandmother and having taken his tally in the top flight to 16 last weekend is now very much in the thinking for Foda.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche said: "We have a group who continue to mature in different ways and he's part of that. He's done well and earned the right to get recognised like the others who are getting looked at for England, the Irish lads and Vokesy at Wales of course. They have earned the right because of their performances."
