Burnley News: Dyche explains dropping Wood; Barnes happy with goal

Burnley boss Sean Dyche explained dropping Chris Wood for victory over Swansea City.

Ashley Barnes replaced Wood in attack after the New Zealand striker was ruled out of contention by Dyche following his marathon journey back from Peru on Thursday night.

He explained: “It was a really simple situation. Chris had three flights to get back and landed and went straight from the airport to training.

“I don't think that's ideal preparation for a Premier League game and it was nothing to do with his hamstring or anything else.

“It was my decision to say 'look, big man, you've had a knock anyway and that amount of travelling it's almost inhuman with the body clock and amount of travel, to play.

“But he'll be fine and he'll be back in training next week."

Meanwhile, Barnes was delighted with his goal for the win.

Barnes scored for the first time since his crucial effort at Crystal Palace at the end of April all but guaranteed Burnley's survival in the Premier League last season.

He said, “It was nice to get the nod. That was really nice and all I can do is give my best.

“I believe in myself. I knew it was going to come back. That's wasn't a problem. It's just getting a run, and hopefully I'll get that now.

“You just need to look at the squad and how well everyone is doing. The competition for places and you can't ask for much more than that as a group of players.

“It is frustrating when you're not getting picked but these things happen in football and you've just to keep on going and going."
