Burnley midfielder Gudmundsson praises 'unbelievable' Iceland qualification

Burnley midfielder Johann Gudmundssoon has praised his Icelandic national team-mates for managing to secure qualification for the 2018 World Cup which will be held in Russia next year.

After surprisingly winning Group I ahead of Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey, Iceland managed to secure themselves a place in the World Cup for the first time in history.

Gudmundsson has been on a run of good form recently and scored during both their nations qualifiers this month against Turkey as well as against Kosovo.

After his country secured qualification, he said: "Unbelievable" "To do it at home was special, for Iceland to be at the World Cup is quite magnificent.

"We are the smallest nation ever to qualify so we are in the history books. It was a great moment and a tough group as well so we've done a really good job."

Iceland's World Cup qualification comes just over a year since they surprisingly were a part of Euro 2016 and knocked England out of the event.
