Burnley midfielder Defour: We all knew De Bruyne was good at Genk

Burnley midfielder Steven Defour is happy seeing Kevin de Bruyne star for Manchester City.

Defour used to share a house with De Bruyne when they were progressing through the ranks together with Belgian club Genk.

"We've known each other since we were staying with a family in Genk, who worked for the club," Defour said. "I think I was 16 or 17, so Kevin must have been 12 or 13.

"Even then, he could see things way faster than anyone else, so he could argue with the coach.

"It was not really arguing, but if the coach said, 'You have to play the ball right', he would say no if he could see a better option because he was so ahead of his team-mates.

"We knew he was good. What struck me about him was that his right foot and his left foot were basically the same, which was a remarkable for a boy of 12 or 13 years old.

"He really knew what he wanted at that point. He knew he wanted to be a professional player. You could see when you were talking to him. He just wanted to play football and prove it."
