Burnley co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz has made it vehemently clear that the club has no intentions of selling Danny Ings.
The talented striker has emerged on the radar of Southampton who have been linked with a possible January move but the Clarets are determined to tie him down to a new contract in a bid to ward off interest from any Premier League rivals.
"Talks are ongoing, but it is vital we try and keep him," he told Sky Sports.
"It's a team effort staying in the Premier League, but he is a crucial part of that. We will be doing our best to hang on to him."
Ings has netted four league goals in 10 appearances so far this season with all of those coming in his past four outings for the Turf Moor club.
