Burnley defender Keane feared the worst before learning of England call-up

Michael Keane admitted he feared the worst when he discovered some missed calls from Burnley boss Sean Dyche on Monday.

The 23-year-old defender has been called up by England boss Gareth Southgate to replace Stoke City's Glen Johnson but has revealed that upon finding out his Clarets manager was trying to get in touch, he felt he may have done something wrong.

"I was in the pool at the gym by my house and when I got in the changing-room I had a few missed calls by the gaffer," he revealed to FA TV.

"I was thinking, 'Oh no, what have I done wrong here?'

"I had to call him back and he told me the good news. He was really happy for me."

Keane will link up with the England squad at St George's Park in preparation for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Malta at Wembley and Tuesday's trip to Ljubljana to take on Slovenia.
