Burnley defender Keane: England debut a ‘dream come true’

Burnley defender Michael Keane has described his England debut as a 'dream come true'.

The 24-year-old made his Three Lions debut in the 1-0 friendly defeat against Germany on Wednesday.

Keane says that he felt a few nerves but playing alongside experienced players helped him feel fairly comfortable on the pitch.

He said: "Wednesday night was a dream come true on a personal level.

"I have been striving to get here for the last year or two having come through the Under-21s so to finally do it, on a stage like this, against the world champions was great.

"I felt comfortable. There were a few nerves and butterflies as you would expect but it helped me playing alongside experienced players. They were talking through me the game the whole time.

"I feel very proud. Obviously, there has been a lot of hard work to get to this stage. I feel as though I have earned it on the pitch having played for Burnley.

"I will set new goals. I have managed to get to a huge one in terms of making my debut. There are a lot of great players ahead of me. It is not going to be easy but I want to keep playing well for my club and see where it takes me. I always thought it would come eventually.

"It is flattering when big clubs want you. But I am focused on Burnley. We have nine games left. We need to make sure we stay in the League, but the links show that I am doing well."
