Burnley co-chairman Mike Garlick is in Brazil scouting for potential signings.
Garlick has flown out to Brazil to take in two England games at the tournament.
"I'm going to try and sign Messi!" he joked with the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"It will be great to see a lot of the players that we will be playing against in the Premier League next season.
"In the Championship there is only a player here or there at the World Cup, but pretty much every country has a player from the Premier League.
"I will be doing some scouting for Sean!
"But I'm sure Sean will be glued to the television keeping an eye on the players we'll be playing against, too."
