Burnley chairman Kilby says imports hurting England prospects

Burnley chairman Barry Kilby says England's national team prospects are hurt by the amount of foreign imports.

Kilby gave his opinion to an MPs' inquiry into football yesterday.

Kilby told MPs: "The problem is the Premier League hoovers up the very best young talent but once they get to 19 or 20 there are so many foreign players - and even imported foreign young players - they have not got a chance.

"They need to develop as they do in Germany at that age in terms of real match experience and match mentality.

"Those vital years are being missed in the national team.

"The players are there but it's that vital competition that's missing now.

"Look back at the lads who Sir Alex Ferguson brought through at Manchester United in the early 90s - Beckham, Giggs, the Nevilles - that wouldn't happen now, it's so foreign-dominated."
