Burnley captain Tom Heaton proud of England call

Burnley captain Tom Heaton is delighted by his England call.

Heaton is one of three goalkeepers to be named in a 26-man squad by Roy Hodgson for the Three Lions' games against Turkey, Australia and Portugal.

The squad will be cut to 23 before England fly out to France for the tournament, but with only three goalkeepers named he is almost certain to be on the plane.

“I'm delighted to be a part of it with the warm-up games we've got coming up and the next step is to try and make sure I'm definitely in that final 23 when it's chosen," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

“It's always a great honour to be called up for your country and I'll give everything I've got, every single day to try and be involved in France."

Colin McDonald was the last Clarets goalkeeper to feature for England in 1959 and he was also the last Burnley player to play for the Three Lions in a major tournament in 1958.

“I'm told it's a long time since Burnley had a player make an England appearance at a major tournament and he was a keeper too, so it's great to be spoken about in that bracket," said Heaton.

“It's something you dream of growing up as a kid and after winning the league this season on the domestic front, which was top draw the way we went about it, it's fantastic to be involved with England again with a real chance of going to the finals."
