Burnley boss Sean Dyche is backing Joey Barton for his appointment as Fleetwood Town manager.

Barton played for Dyche at Burnley and the Clarets boss says he saw the signs of a potential manager.

Dyche said: "I don't think it is a surprise so much to me.He is a strong professional, Joe.

"I can only really speak about what he did here and how he adjusted to what we offer the players here.

"He was first class and I felt that there is a 'student of the game' - to coin a phrase! - in him."
