Burnley boss Coyle hails Alexander after job on Man Utd's Giggs

Burnley boss Owen Coyle was delighted with Graham Alexander's marking job on Ryan Giggs in this week's victory over Manchester United.

And he kept last season's PFA Player of the Year quiet as a sellout 23,000 Turf Moor crowd went wild to celebrate Burnley's first win over United since 1968.

Coyle joked: "Even Graham wasn't born when that last happened!

"He kept Giggs on a short leash and that was vital to our plans.

"I didn't know that much about Graham until I came to Burnley but he's just one of those people you admire when you work with him and see what he brings to a team.

"That's why I gave him a new contract and why I had no doubts about making him captain after Steven Caldwell got injured in Oslo.

"I spoke to him in the summer and told him he was capable of playing for years yet.

"I kept playing until I was 40 at St Johnstone and it's all about the right attitude, which Graham has."
