Burnley boss Coyle forced to work from shoestring budget

Burnley boss Owen Coyle will be working on a shoestring budget this summer.

The Clarets' entire wage bill will be around £15million, with top earners on less than £1m, compared to the £7m pocketed by stars like Robinho at Manchester City, says the People.

The figures still have to be thrashed out between the manager and club chiefs Brendan Flood and Barry Kilby, but Coyle will have barely half the budget of many rival mid-table bosses.

Burnley are rock bottom of the wages table before a ball is kicked. But Coyle is happy to take on the challenge of keeping them up after turning down the chance to quadruple his own wages with Celtic after Gordon Strachan's sudden departure from Parkhead.

Burnley plan to spend just half of the guaranteed £30m Premier League pay-out on wages, compared to the 80 per cent splashed out by neighbouring Blackburn Rovers.

The players who took Burnley up via the play-offs were modestly paid by Championship standards, with top earners on a basic of around £400,000.
