Burnley agree to Liverpool fixture change

Burnley have struck an agreement with Liverpool to switch the venue of the opening day Premier League fixture from Anfield to Turf Moor, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool were set to open their 2016/17 Premier League campaign with a clash against newly promoted Burnley at Anfield on August 20but with the construction of the Main Stand unlikely to be completed in time for the fixture, the Reds made a request to Burnley to switch the venue of the clash to Turf Moor.

The Clarets have accepted Liverpool's request and now the Reds are waiting for the Premier League to ratify the agreement. The change in venue means that Liverpool will play their first game of the season at Anfield only in September, when they welcome Premier League champions Leicester City.
