Bulgarian coach to talk Berbatov out of international retirement

New Bulgaria head coach Lothar Matthaus hopes to persuade Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov to perform a U-turn on his international retirement. The 29 year old announced in May he no longer wanted to be considered for selection after failing to reach World Cup 2010.

Matthaus told reporters he would be speaking to Berbatov to try and bring him back in to the fold.

"I plan to start talks with Berbatov," Matthaus was quoted as saying by skysports.com.

"He is still welcome in the Bulgarian national team. As a Bulgarian player he should be proud to play for his country."
